School Information

Ealing College Upper School (ECUS) is a well established independent grammar school that caters for the needs of a modern society. By addressing these needs, we intend to prepare pupils to face twenty first century challenges.

The school was originally established in 1820, but moved to its present site in the leafy suburb of Ealing, west London, in 1957.

Educating the Individual

You would certainly have recognised that your child is an individual—unique talents, unique needs and ambitions. If this is the case then you need a School that not only recognises this uniqueness but also has the resources to tailor its teaching to suit the individual child. Large schools and colleges lack this flexibility.

Small School with Small Classes

The ethos of the college can be expressed in two simple words; individuality and quality. These are the keys to a successful education, a process that is really only possible to unlock on an individual basis.

We pride ourselves on being a small college with small classes where your child is treated as an individual, irrespective of his/her ability or background. As far as possible a child’s programme of study is tailored to fit him or her. We do not seek to force children into pre-determined order but to ensure teachers genuinely have time for each individual child. Each boy and girl has strengths that they may not yet know; our aim is to teach, to guide, and above all encourage. Each pupil is encouraged by personal commitment and by example. He/she will find good role models at the School, both from teachers and senior pupils alike.

Enthusiasm and attitudes

Every boy and girl at the School will get an opportunity to develop special enthusiasm in their chosen interest. Although each pupil will follow a targeted and coherent syllabus, we encourage throughout their stay with us a lively, thinking approach to learning. It is, therefore, not surprising that examination results for both GCSE and A-level have been well above national averages and those achieved by schools in the London Borough of Ealing. In recent years, almost all our sixth-form leavers have progressed to universities.
