Post of Teacher of Maths
The school wishes to appoint a teacher for September 2010 to take charge of Mathematics throughout the school and to teach the subject from Year 9 up to Year 13.
The school follows the Edexcel linear specification to GCSE and the Edexcel specification to AS and A-level. In the Sixth Form, students take Units C1 and C2 plus an applications Unit, either M1 or S1 in Year 12 and continue in Year 13 with the other applications Unit plus C3 and C4. The successful applicant must therefore be able to offer both Mechanics and Statistics.
Applicants should possess a degree in Mathematics or a very closely-related subject from a recognised British or overseas University and a teaching qualification in Mathematics from a recognised body.

Post of Teacher of French
The school wishes to appoint a teacher to take charge of French throughout the school, from September 2010.
It is not yet certain whether there will be any Sixth Form work. This will depend on GCSE results and other factors. If there is no Sixth Form work, candidates who are able to offer Spanish up to GCSE would be at an advantage.
This is a full-time post. Candidates who are qualified teachers and have a modern language degree or equivalent from a recognised British or overseas university are welcome to apply.

Post of Teacher of Geography
The school wishes to appoint a teacher to take charge of Geography throughout the school, from September 2009.
This post is the sole Geography post in the school. The successful applicant will teach Geography up to Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) and GCSE (Years 10-11). There may be an opportunity for Sixth Form work in Year 12, subject to demand, but there is not currently any Geography in Year 13.

General Job Description for Teachers
Responsible to: Head of Department or Headmaster
GENERAL TEACHING DUTIES
Teaching & Learning:

To manage pupil learning through effective teaching in accordance with the school’s schemes of work and policies.

To ensure continuity, progression and cohesiveness in all teaching.

To use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match curricular objectives and the range of pupil needs, and ensure equal opportunity for all pupils.

To set homework regularly (in accordance with the School homework policy), to consolidate and extend learning and to encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning.

To work with any support teacher (including prior discussion and joint planning) in order to maximise effectiveness within lessons.

To work effectively as a member of the Department team to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

To set high expectations for all pupils, to deepen their knowledge and understanding and to maximise their achievement.

To use positive management of behaviour in an environment of mutual respect which allows pupils to feel safe and secure and promotes their self‑esteem.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording Reporting, and Accountability:

To be immediately responsible for the processes of identification, assessment, recording and reporting for the pupils in their charge.

To contribute towards the implementation of IEPs, particularly the planning and recording of appropriate actions and outcomes related to set targets. To assess pupils’ work systematically and use the results to further planning, teaching and curricular development.

To be familiar with assessment and reporting procedures and to prepare and present informative, helpful and accurate reports to parents.
Subject Knowledge & Understanding:

To have a thorough and up‑to‑date knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum programmes of study, level descriptors and specifications for examination courses.

To keep up to date with research and developments in pedagogy and the subject area.
