English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Ealing College offers international students an opportunity to achieve success through qualifications in English. Learners who struggle with communicating in English are unlikely to be able to achieve their true potential in their studies or at work. By improving their English skills, these learners stand a much better chance of progressing. ESOL (Skills for Life) from Edexcel allows students to progress into employment and further study.
At Ealing College, ESOL (Skills for Life) is available to International students at Levels 1 (NQF Level 1; equivalent to B2 CEF) and Level 2 (NQF Level 2; equivalent to C1 CEF).
Each level has three units:
Unit 1: Speaking and listening Unit 2: Writing Unit 3: Reading
Learners must achieve all three units (Speaking and Listening, Writing, and Reading) in order to achieve an Edexcel Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life.
These qualifications are suitable for applications for UK citizenship. They also meet the requirements of the UK Border Agency to show proof of English Language skills necessary under the Points Based System for immigration.
The course is open to:
- Adults – International students in this category must also provide evidence of prior knowledge of English at Entry level 3 (Edexcel or other examination body) or an equivalent qualification deemed equivalent to B1 at Common European Framework (CEF) and accepted by the UKBA.
- 14 -18 year olds – If you are an international student, you do not have to provide evidence of prior knowledge equivalent to B1. Some knowledge of English, however will be beneficial.
Duration and Commencement ESOL courses commence every September, January, April and July. Each level can be completed within one year.
