BTEC Level 5 Professional Diploma in Banking financeThe Level 5 BTEC Professional Diploma in Banking and Finance is designed to provide:

  • education and training for those in the banking and finance industry with a responsibility to provide appropriate and professional services
  • opportunities for persons working or wishing to have a career in the banking and finance industry to achieve a recognised Level 5 vocationally-specific qualification
  • opportunities for full-time or part-time learners to gain a recognised vocationally-specific qualification to enter employment in the field of banking and finance or to progress to a degree programme at a university
  • the knowledge, understanding and skills learners need to process for effective employment or career progression
  • opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major skills, such as improving own learning and performance, problem solving and working with others, in a banking and finance context
  • opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.


To achieve the whole qualification, a learner must successfully complete eight core and eight specialist units.

Unit 3 Business Accounting and Financial Planning
Unit 4 Legal Framework Relating to Financial Crime
Unit 5 Money Laundering
Unit 6 The Management of Risk
Unit 7 The Strategic Management of a Bank
Unit 8 Analysing Customer Accounts for the purpose of reaching a Lending Decision
   

Specialist Units

Unit 9 Cash Flow Statements, Management Accounting and Investment Appraisal
Unit 10 Taxation Principles and Income Tax
Unit 11 Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax and Value Added Tax
Unit 12 Credit Risk Management in Banking
Unit 13 Operational Risk Management in Banking
Unit 14 The Corporate Customer and their needs
Unit 20 Customer Relationship Management
Unit 22 Islamic Banking

 

Assessment

The units are assessed using a variety of methods, including case studies, assignments and work-based assessments, along with projects, performance observation and time-constrained assessments.


Entry Requirements

Students must have:

 

a) 5 GCSEs, including Maths or an equivalent qualifications
b) For speakers of other languages, an IELTS at 5.5 or higher
c) Related work experience
d) Other related Level 3 and level 4 qualification

 

More mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include experience of paid and/or unpaid employment.
